Today is National Geek Pride Day, a holiday someone exceptionally geeky created back in 2006. It's unclear as to how exactly the date of May 25th was selected but the fact that the premiere of the first Star Wars movie was on this date in 1977 is probably a reasonable hint and a point in the right direction.
So what do you do on Geek Pride Day? I don't know, why are you asking me, ya geek?
Well, If you live in San Diego, the city is celebrating with its first Geek Pride Festival.( a perfect place for it if you ask me)
To help get you started on your plans to celebrate, some geeks got together in 2006 and created
a list of the the "rights of geeks," (which, if you ask me was a really geeky thing to do) and if you follow it correctly, you'll be a very proud geek before you know it. I'd be careful though, my suspicion is tomorrow is probably "beat up a geek after school day", and that's never much fun, (unless you're the one doing the beating, I guess).
At any rate, Happy Geek Pride Day!(?)! Go on and let your Geek flag fly! and here's that Geek List to get you started (some curiously seem anti-geek to me, I don't know)
1. The right to be even geekier.
2. The right to not leave your house.
3. The right to not like football or any other sport.
4. The right to associate with other nerds.
5. The right to have few friends (or none at all).
6. The right to have as many geeky friends as you want.
7. The right to be out of style.
8. The right to be overweight and short-sighted.
9. The right to show off your geekiness.
10. The right to take over the world.
